True Blood (T1-T2): Highly Recommended

November 04

A few posts discussed the novels "Southern Vampire Mysteries" by Charlaine Harris, and said it had become the series "True Blood". Having seen the first two seasons (the only issued) today we talk a bit about the series.

Apparently, she had received several offers to bring their books, but we finally got the upper hand was Alan Ball, who is best known for being the creator of "Six Feet Under", cult series, which I promise to comment soon.

If the followers of "Six Feet" hope something I advise you to refrain from seeing True Blood, since all similar is that occasionally there are dead. The rest has nothing to do.

Early on True Blood engages with the credits, superbly accompanied by the song "Bad Things" by Jace Everett, which fits a lot with the southern atmosphere of the series. The phrase "I do not know who you think you are, But Before the night is through, I wanna do bad things with you" I feel great.

Broadly speaking, for non leísteis the post, the series is about the "rising of coffin" vampires, after the discovery, and artificial blood marketed. After centuries in the shadows, adapting these to modern society is, at least, curious.

The series is set in the deep south of USA, specifically in Loussiana, a traditional rural, low economic power, so most of the characters encuadrarían what the Americans call "White trash".

The main character, Sookie Stockhouse is a waitress with telepathic powers, which would create problems of socialization, and that everyone consider a Pirada. Sookie is played by Anna Paquin, the former child prodigy who won an Oscar for "The Piano". Anna is amazing in his role, creating a dot Sookie a prissy, pretentious, and quite redicha, ie, a contrast to the rustic of his friends and clients. It's a juicy role, a character who is interesting, but it could have been any overacting fully charged

Sookie falls for the only vampire town, Bill and this will change your life completely.

The two seasons are based on the first two books in the series, but with the freedom that comes from having many minutes to adapt a book under 300 pages. It's just the opposite of adapting a book like Millenium, where there are few minutes to many pages (see post on this).

Thus, each season, as usual HBO, is twelve chapters, although they are slightly longer (about 50 minutes), the 40 standard of the rest of the series. This gives them the opportunity to create new characters, not always successful (Tara and her mother are tiresome), or develop some of which go unnoticed in the novel and they are removed quite match (Fenix)

The series has a lot of pace, this contributes to the two seasons are developed in a relatively short, a few weeks for each frame and apparently little temporal separation between them.

The first season is a bit more restrained and yes, there is blood, some violence, but not too much, and some explicit sexual scene than is usual in the series. However, this contention in the second ends and is more blood, more violence, orgies community, some cannibalism, religious fundamentalism, anti vampire, supernatural creatures than vampires, that is, the series gets out of hand a little, but is still very entertaining and get hooked.

The atmosphere is very accomplished in Louissiana, and the rest of the cast, which is less known that Anna Paquin, accompanies. The vampires, even though whites seem real enough to look like vampires without laughter. Perhaps than enough, sometimes, the special effects of the tusks, but you can afford. Apart from Bill, which would be the other main character, although at a lower level than Sookie, Eric highlighted, and the mysterious Sam, apart Laffayette Jester.

It is a pity not brought into the series the character of the books Buba (Elvis transformation into a vampire, though somewhat delayed due to the large amount of drugs in his body at the time of processing), that would have given a hoot to the series, but maybe it was too risky.

Finally, even if it's a little difficult, I recommend the original series (I have not seen bent), but lose some of its grace without English with a southern accent.

Rating: 8.5 (for each season)

  1. The second season I personally did not like, it's like watching a series very different from the first. I for one am left with the first, long, but I'm sure many people will not agree because, as decíis, has managed to hook the audience.
I really like the blog, step forward.

Rick is that is so obsessed with something like a bulldog when he hooked, not released. To me personally, I like, but do not just get a taste for blood ... The role of it, I do not like!

Right now I'm with the first and I'm hooked

  4. You're on the right track. I guess I'll be seeing in the VO, enjoying the mix of accents: Southern, Cajun, although it is sometimes difficult. I, personally, go to Tara and her mother was hard enough.
The first season is to adapt. The second pot is going well. If you view half still like is that you're a true fan.
